What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates the effectiveness of the 'Stone MD' mobile application in preventing forgotten ureteral stents among patients who have undergone stent placement for urolithiasis. Participants aged 18 to 80 will be randomly assigned to either use the app or not, with the app providing reminders for stent removal. The app includes a feature called 'Stent Radar' that allows patients to input their stent details and receive notifications for timely removal. The study aims to determine if the app significantly reduces the incidence of forgotten stents compared to standard care.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are male and female patients aged 18 to 80 who have a Ch 4.7-6.0 polyurethane ureteral stent.
Not a fit: Patients with an active urinary tract infection, those lacking social adaptation, or those without a smartphone with internet access may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this app could significantly reduce complications associated with forgotten ureteral stents, improving patient outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific use of a mobile app for this purpose may be novel, other studies have shown success in using technology to improve patient adherence and outcomes in similar medical contexts.
