Understanding tissue response in anal cancer treatment
ANCABio - a Study Regarding Tumour Microenvironment and the Predictive Capability of Biopsies from Anal Cancer in Predicting Response and Outcome
This study looks at how anal cancer tumors interact with the body’s immune system and their surrounding environment to better understand the disease in adults who are newly diagnosed or have recurring anal cancer.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to enhance the understanding of tumor biology in anal cancer patients by examining the tumor microenvironment, cellular interactions between tumors and immune cells, and the gene and protein expression in tumor and surrounding tissues. Eligible participants include adults with newly diagnosed or recurrent anal cancer, who will provide biopsies and blood samples during diagnostic and follow-up examinations. The study is conducted at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, where patients will be monitored throughout their treatment process.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults with newly diagnosed or recurrent anal cancer.
Not a fit: Patients without a diagnosis of anal cancer or those who cannot undergo biopsies or blood sampling may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved treatment strategies for anal cancer based on a better understanding of tumor biology.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is focused on understanding tumor biology in anal cancer, similar studies in other cancer types have shown promise in improving treatment outcomes.
