What this trial studies

PSYLIVED is a qualitative study that aims to explore the emotional experiences of individuals living with inherited colorectal cancer predisposition syndromes. The study will involve interviews with 30 to 66 participants who have been offered genetic testing, focusing on their psychological adaptation processes over time. Utilizing reflexive thematic analysis, the research will examine how these individuals cope with the challenges associated with their condition. The findings are expected to inform better support services and interventions tailored to the needs of this population.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 18 years old residing in the UK who have been diagnosed with or are at risk of inherited colorectal cancer and have been offered genetic testing.

Not a fit: Patients under 18 years old, those who cannot communicate in English, or individuals with significant learning or communication difficulties may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved psychological support and care practices for individuals at risk of inherited colorectal cancer.

How similar studies have performed: While qualitative studies on psychological impacts in cancer patients exist, this specific focus on inherited colorectal cancer predisposition syndromes is relatively novel.
