What this trial studies

This observational study aims to assess the morbidity and mortality rates of end-stage renal disease patients undergoing hemodialysis in Dodoma, Tanzania. It will identify predictors of mortality, common causes of infection and hospitalization, and analyze both short and long-term survival rates. The study will also establish a registry called the Tanzania Registry for Chronic Renal Failure to improve data collection and patient management. Conducted at two hemodialysis centers, it will provide valuable insights into the challenges faced by patients in a developing country.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals diagnosed with end-stage renal disease who are receiving maintenance hemodialysis at the participating centers.

Not a fit: Patients with acute kidney injury, those with chronic kidney disease stages other than stage 5, or individuals who have undergone kidney transplantation will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved patient outcomes and healthcare strategies for managing end-stage renal disease in Tanzania.

How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have been conducted in other regions, this specific approach in Tanzania is novel and aims to fill a significant gap in local healthcare data.
