What this trial studies

This observational project aims to establish sensory phenotypes in a Taiwanese cohort with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) across their lifespan. It will explore various sensory modalities and domains, as well as their clinical correlates. The study will also investigate the relationship between sensory phenotypes and social impairments, specifically focusing on eye gaze avoidance and social touch anxiety, using fMRI and EEG techniques. By quantifying sensory characteristics, the research seeks to provide a clearer understanding of how these features change with age and impact social interactions.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals aged 12-40 years with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder.

Not a fit: Patients without a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder or those with major psychiatric disorders may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the understanding of sensory issues in ASD, leading to better support and interventions for individuals affected by these challenges.

How similar studies have performed: While there is ongoing research into sensory characteristics in ASD, this study's comprehensive approach to examining sensory phenotypes across the lifespan is relatively novel.
