What this trial studies
This project focuses on assessing the self-care abilities of farmers and fishermen diagnosed with cardiometabolic diseases (CMDs) such as hypertension, heart disease, and diabetes. Utilizing Dorothea Orem's self-care theory, the study aims to develop tailored educational materials and tools, including a tabletop game, to enhance self-care practices among this population. The research will identify gaps in self-care knowledge and practices, considering the socioeconomic challenges faced by these individuals. The ultimate goal is to improve health outcomes by empowering participants with effective self-care strategies.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are farmers and fishermen aged 18 to 75 who have been diagnosed with cardiometabolic diseases and can communicate in Taiwanese or Mandarin.
Not a fit: Patients who have experienced a stroke or myocardial infarction, or those with cognitive disorders or severe kidney and heart failure, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly enhance the self-care abilities of farmers and fishermen, leading to better management of their chronic diseases.
How similar studies have performed: While similar approaches have been explored, this specific integration of self-care education through engaging tools like tabletop games is relatively novel.
