Understanding sarcopenia and mobility in elderly bladder cancer patients
SArcopenia, Mobility, PHYsical Activity and Post-operative Risk of Bladder Carcinoma in the Elderly
This study is trying to see how muscle loss and mobility affect older bladder cancer patients after surgery, to help improve their physical health before the operation.

What this trial studies
This study investigates the relationship between sarcopenia, mobility, and postoperative risks in elderly patients with bladder cancer who require cystectomy. It aims to measure key factors such as walking speed, grip strength, and muscle mass using bioimpedance and tomodensitometry. Additionally, the study will assess mobility through the QAPPA questionnaire and monitor physical activity levels with a wrist actimeter. The goal is to gather clinical data that will inform a future intervention focused on preoperative physical reconditioning.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are elderly patients with confirmed urothelial bladder carcinoma who are scheduled for radical cystectomy and can communicate in French.
Not a fit: Patients with a life expectancy of less than six months or those with other severe chronic conditions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve postoperative outcomes for elderly bladder cancer patients by addressing sarcopenia and enhancing physical activity.
How similar studies have performed: While studies have explored sarcopenia in various cancers, this specific focus on bladder carcinoma and its preoperative implications is relatively novel.
