What this trial studies
This observational study investigates the impact of nutritional status on the length of hospital stay, clinical outcomes, and survival rates in older patients admitted for acute illnesses. It focuses on disease-related malnutrition, which is prevalent among hospitalized older adults and can lead to complications such as delayed healing and increased mortality. By assessing the nutritional needs and characteristics of these patients, the study aims to highlight the importance of proper nutrition in improving health outcomes during hospitalization.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are acutely admitted adults aged 65 years and older who can understand Danish.
Not a fit: Patients who are admitted for less than 24 hours or those with terminal illnesses may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved nutritional interventions that enhance recovery and survival rates for older hospitalized patients.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have indicated that addressing malnutrition in hospitalized patients can lead to better health outcomes, suggesting that this approach is supported by existing evidence.
