Understanding how environmental factors affect human health
Natural History of The Human Biological Response to Environmental Exposure and Injury
National Institutes of Health Clinical Center (CC) · NCT04888923
This study looks at how things like pollution and diet affect our health, especially inflammation and metabolic diseases, by collecting samples and health information from participants.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to explore the relationship between environmental exposures, such as pollution and diet, and their impact on human health, particularly focusing on inflammation and metabolic diseases. Participants will provide various biological samples, including blood, urine, and saliva, and answer health-related questionnaires to help researchers identify how these factors contribute to disease development. The study will analyze biological markers of injury and inflammation to better understand the mechanisms behind environmentally induced health issues.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are healthy adults aged 18 and older who can provide informed consent and are willing to participate in all study procedures.
Not a fit: Patients who are currently pregnant, lactating, or have conditions that may pose undue risk during study procedures will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved prevention and treatment strategies for diseases linked to environmental factors.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in understanding the impact of environmental factors on health, making this approach both relevant and promising.
