What this trial studies
This qualitative interview study aims to explore the experiences of dental professionals and students regarding child patients' pain during dental procedures. Using Grounded Theory methodology, the study will conduct in-depth interviews with dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, and dental students in their final years of training. The goal is to gain insights into their perceptions of child patients' pain and their preparedness to manage it effectively. This research seeks to address the underutilization of local anesthetics in pediatric dentistry and its implications for patient care.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are dental students in their 4th or 5th year of training and dental professionals who regularly work with child patients.
Not a fit: Patients who do not understand the Swedish language will not benefit from this study as they cannot participate in the interviews.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved pain management strategies in pediatric dentistry, enhancing the overall dental experience for children.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have highlighted the challenges in managing pain in pediatric dentistry, but this specific qualitative approach using Grounded Theory is relatively novel.
