Understanding heart function in patients with preserved ejection fraction heart failure
Relative Importance of Cardiovascular Risk Factors and Echocardiographic Parameters Affecting Left Atrial Strain
This study is trying to see if measuring a specific heart function called left atrial reservoir strain can help predict heart problems in people with heart failure who have preserved ejection fraction.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to investigate the role of left atrial reservoir strain (LARS) in patients diagnosed with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). It will assess how LARS serves as a predictor for high scores on the HFA-PEFF diagnostic algorithm and evaluate its importance relative to traditional cardiovascular risk factors. The study will include participants aged 20 and older who have been diagnosed with heart failure and can undergo LARS measurement. By analyzing these factors, the study seeks to enhance understanding of heart function in this patient population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 20 and older with a diagnosis of heart failure (ICD-10 code I50) who can undergo left atrial reservoir strain measurement.
Not a fit: Patients with left ventricular ejection fraction below 50% or those with certain arrhythmias or implanted devices will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve diagnostic accuracy and treatment strategies for patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is observational and builds on existing knowledge, similar studies have shown promise in understanding heart function in HFpEF patients.
