Understanding gut bacteria and metabolites in children with appendicitis
Research on Intestinal Flora and Metabonomics of Appendicitis in Children
Qianfoshan Hospital · NCT06035029
This study is trying to see how the gut bacteria and substances in poop differ between healthy kids and those with appendicitis to help improve diagnosis and understanding of the condition.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to investigate the key bacterial flora and metabolites associated with appendicitis in children aged 1-14 years. By utilizing 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing technology, the study will analyze fecal samples to identify microbial differences between healthy children and those diagnosed with appendicitis. Additionally, untargeted metabolomics will be employed to examine the differences in fecal metabolites, providing insights into the intestinal flora's role in appendicitis. The goal is to uncover potential biomarkers that could aid in the diagnosis and understanding of pediatric appendicitis.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children aged 1-14 years who have been diagnosed with appendicitis or have no history of digestive tract disease.
Not a fit: Patients with a family history of intestinal disease or those with other systemic or congenital diseases may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to the identification of biomarkers that improve the diagnosis and management of appendicitis in children.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of this study may be novel, similar studies have shown promise in understanding the role of gut microbiota in various conditions.
