Understanding frailty and pre-frailty in older adults
Prevalence, Determinants and Natural History of Frailty and Pre-frailty in People Over the Age of 65 Years in a Prospective 5-year Observation
The Opole University of Technology · NCT04518423

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess the prevalence, determinants, and natural history of frailty and pre-frailty among elderly individuals. It focuses on a multidimensional approach to frailty, considering physical, psychological, and social factors that contribute to this geriatric syndrome. The study will utilize comprehensive echocardiography to evaluate cardiac function and its relationship with frailty, particularly examining diastolic filling patterns and autonomic nervous system dysfunction. By identifying subclinical cardiovascular abnormalities, the research seeks to enhance prevention and treatment strategies for frailty in older adults.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are community-dwelling elderly individuals over the age of 65 who are able to move around independently.
Not a fit: Patients who are institutionalized, unable to move around, or have terminal diseases with a life expectancy of less than one year may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved identification and management of frailty in elderly patients, potentially enhancing their quality of life and health outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in understanding frailty through multidimensional approaches, indicating that this research builds on established methodologies.
