What this trial studies
This observational study aims to explore the psychological and social determinants that influence physical activity engagement among cancer patients. It will utilize a mixed methods approach to identify individual, interpersonal, environmental, political, and global factors that facilitate or hinder physical activity at various stages of cancer treatment. By examining these factors, the study seeks to understand why many cancer patients do not adhere to recommended physical activity levels despite its known benefits. The findings could help tailor interventions to improve physical activity participation among this population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adult patients with a histologically confirmed diagnosis of non-metastatic breast, prostate, or colorectal cancer who are about to begin treatment.
Not a fit: Patients with severe physical, cognitive, or linguistic impairments, or those with a life expectancy of less than six months may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved physical activity levels among cancer patients, enhancing their overall well-being and potentially reducing mortality rates.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that understanding socio-ecological factors can significantly improve physical activity adherence in various populations, suggesting potential success for this approach in cancer patients.
