What this trial studies

This observational cohort study aims to estimate the incidence of difficult airway management in bariatric patients undergoing surgery. It will include patients over 18 years with a BMI of 30 kg/m2 or higher who require intubation. Data on demographics, clinical characteristics, and intubation outcomes will be collected to assess the occurrence of difficult airway and related complications. The study will involve a total of 1290 patients to ensure accurate estimation of the incidence.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 years old with a BMI of 30 kg/m2 or higher who are scheduled for bariatric surgery and require intubation.

Not a fit: Patients who do not require intubation or have a BMI below 30 kg/m2 may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve airway management strategies and enhance patient safety during bariatric surgeries.

How similar studies have performed: While studies on airway management in bariatric patients exist, this specific approach to estimating incidence is novel and may provide new insights.
