Understanding cancer risks from environmental contaminants during pregnancy
DREAM: Discovering Cancer Risks From Environmental Contaminants And Maternal/Child Health

What this trial studies
The DREAM Cohort is a longitudinal observational study aimed at exploring the relationship between environmental chemical exposures and cancer risks in pregnant women and their children. It focuses on two main types of exposures: chemicals from consumer products and environmental pollutants in air and water. Data will be collected through health questionnaires and biospecimen samples starting in the second trimester of pregnancy and continuing until the child is four years old. The study also includes a Cohort Ambassador Program to engage participants in shaping research priorities.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are pregnant women over the age of 18 who speak English or Spanish.
Not a fit: Patients who are under 18 years old or expecting multiples will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide critical insights into how environmental factors during pregnancy influence cancer risk in children.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in linking environmental exposures to health outcomes, making this approach both relevant and promising.
