What this trial studies
This research aims to collect blood samples from patients before and after undergoing bariatric surgery to investigate the mechanisms behind glucose intolerance and insulin resistance associated with obesity. By analyzing the extracellular vesicle cargo in these samples, the study seeks to uncover the biological factors that contribute to diabetes and the improvements observed post-surgery. The observational nature of the study allows for a detailed examination of patient responses to the surgical intervention over time.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals enrolled in a Bariatric Surgery Program with a recent A1c of 6.5 or higher or those with stable type 2 diabetes.
Not a fit: Patients who are disqualified for bariatric surgery or have a BMI less than 35 kg/m² may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better understanding and management of diabetes in obese patients, potentially improving treatment strategies.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have explored the relationship between bariatric surgery and diabetes improvement, indicating potential success in understanding these mechanisms.
