Treatment of shallow periodontal pockets using a special device with erythritol versus manual scalers
Evaluation Of Nonsurgical Treatment Of Shallow Periodontal Pockets (4-6mm) Using AIRFLOW® Prophylaxis Master Device With Erythritol Powder vs Conventional Instrumentation: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial

What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the AIRFLOW Prophylaxis Master Device with erythritol compared to traditional manual scalers in treating shallow periodontal pockets measuring 4-6 mm. Patients with periodontitis will undergo a thorough clinical examination and periodontal charting to confirm eligibility. The study will involve the removal of biofilm and calculus using both the AIRFLOW device and manual instruments, with assessments conducted at baseline, immediately after treatment, and at 6 months post-treatment. The goal is to determine which method is more effective in promoting periodontal health and reducing bacterial presence.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are systemically healthy individuals aged 16 to 80 with periodontitis and at least one residual pocket measuring 4 to 6 mm.
Not a fit: Patients with systemic conditions such as diabetes, pregnant or lactating females, and those with severe respiratory infections or inflammation may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could lead to improved periodontal health and reduced risk of tooth loss for patients with periodontitis.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of AIRFLOW devices is established, this specific comparison with erythritol against manual scalers is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
