What this trial studies
This project examines the effectiveness of a laboratory-based intervention designed to enhance DUI offenders' awareness of the risks associated with alcohol use. Participants will undergo experiential training involving controlled alcohol consumption, structured feedback, and mindfulness techniques to better assess their level of intoxication. The study aims to determine if this training can reduce disinhibition and risk-taking behaviors in intoxicated DUI offenders, as well as decrease their self-reported alcohol consumption over time. A total of 120 participants, including 60 DUI offenders and 60 non-offender controls, will be recruited for this research.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are DUI offenders who have held a valid driver's license for at least five years and drive regularly.
Not a fit: Patients with a history of physical or psychiatric disease, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or substance use disorders (other than nicotine or caffeine) may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly reduce risky behaviors and alcohol-related incidents among DUI offenders.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is innovative, similar studies have shown promise in enhancing risk awareness and reducing alcohol-related incidents among high-risk populations.
