What this trial studies

This project aims to empower secondary school students by training them as anti-smoke ambassadors using a service-learning model. A total of 368 students from 14 secondary schools will be randomly selected to participate in a program that teaches them the AWARD model for smoking cessation. The program will include hands-on experience under the guidance of nursing students who act as peer counselors. The effectiveness of this intervention will be evaluated based on students' knowledge, attitudes, practices, and self-efficacy regarding smoking cessation.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this program are secondary school students in Forms 2-4.

Not a fit: Students outside of Forms 2-4 or those not interested in smoking cessation will not benefit from this program.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this initiative could significantly enhance smoking cessation efforts among adolescents by leveraging peer influence.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that peer-led interventions can effectively promote smoking cessation among adolescents, indicating a promising approach.
