What this trial studies

This project aims to enhance the capacity for early diagnosis of colorectal cancer in Nigeria by developing a comprehensive colonoscopy training program. It consists of three main components: a needs assessment to evaluate current healthcare provider capabilities and access to colonoscopy facilities, the development of a low-fidelity simulation training model for skill acquisition, and training on live patients to assess the effectiveness of the training. The initiative seeks to increase the number of proficient healthcare providers in colonoscopy, ultimately improving patient outcomes in colorectal cancer screening and diagnosis.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this program are healthcare professionals, including consultants and registrars in medicine, surgery, and gastroenterology, who are over 18 years old.

Not a fit: Patients under the age of 18 or those unwilling to provide consent will not benefit from this training program.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly increase the number of trained healthcare providers capable of performing colonoscopies, leading to earlier detection and better management of colorectal cancer.

How similar studies have performed: While similar training programs have been implemented in various settings, this specific approach tailored to Nigeria's healthcare context is novel and untested.
