Training for a life-saving aorta procedure using a virtual coach simulator
Assessment of a Mixed-reality Resuscitative Endovascular Balloon Occlusion of the Aorta (REBOA) Training Simulator With Virtual Coach for Mastery Learning.
NA · University of Florida · NCT05062928

What this trial studies
This study evaluates a mixed-reality simulator designed for Resuscitative Endovascular Balloon Occlusion of the Aorta (REBOA) training, incorporating a virtual coach that provides real-time feedback. The research aims to determine if this virtual coaching method is as effective as traditional human instructors in teaching this critical emergency procedure. Conducted across multiple centers, the study will involve healthcare trainees who will undergo simulation training and assessments to measure their performance and learning outcomes. The findings will inform future developments of the simulator and training methodologies.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are healthcare trainees, including students, residents, fellows, and physicians, aged over 18.
Not a fit: Patients who have already completed a REBOA course or have used the US-guided REBOA simulator will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the training of healthcare professionals, leading to improved patient outcomes in emergency situations involving hemorrhage.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies using simulation-based training with virtual coaching have shown promise, suggesting that this approach may be effective, though this specific application is relatively novel.
