What this trial studies

This study examines the feasibility of a caregiver-assisted strategy training (CaST) program aimed at improving activity functions in adults recovering from stroke. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the CaST intervention or a control education program, with assessments conducted at multiple time points to evaluate clinical outcomes. The study employs a mixed-methods design, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative evaluations to gather comprehensive data on the intervention's effectiveness and acceptability. The goal is to determine if integrating caregivers into rehabilitation can enhance functional outcomes for stroke survivors.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults diagnosed with ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke who have a modified Rankin Scale score between 2 and 4 and are willing to engage in rehabilitation with a healthy caregiver.

Not a fit: Patients undergoing palliative care or those with severe cognitive impairments or other major health conditions may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve rehabilitation outcomes for stroke survivors by effectively involving caregivers in the recovery process.

How similar studies have performed: While the integration of caregivers in rehabilitation is a growing area of interest, this specific approach of caregiver-assisted strategy training is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
