What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effectiveness of a competency-based training program and technical assistance for employment specialists who support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD). It aims to determine if this training improves the knowledge and skills of employment specialists and subsequently enhances employment outcomes for individuals with ID/DD. The study includes an online course and six Zoom technical assistance sessions to provide comprehensive support. By addressing gaps in existing literature, this research seeks to establish a clearer link between training and successful employment outcomes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 18 and older who are currently providing or will be providing employment services to individuals with ID/DD and have not previously participated in ACRE training.

Not a fit: Patients who may not receive benefit from this study include those under 18, pregnant women, prisoners, or individuals unable to provide consent.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved employment outcomes for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

How similar studies have performed: While evidence-based practices in supported employment exist, few studies have successfully linked training of employment specialists to improved employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities, making this approach relatively novel.
