What this trial studies
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of text-based messaging strategies as a Brief Alcohol Intervention (BAI) to prevent problematic alcohol use among young adults in the US Air Force. The intervention targets Technical Training students who are at risk of binge drinking and aims to reduce the incidence of Alcohol Related Incidents (ARIs). Participants will receive automated and targeted text messages designed to encourage safer drinking behaviors. The study builds on previous successful BAI interventions that have shown a significant reduction in ARIs among Airmen.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are United States Air Force Technical Training students aged 18 and older who can understand English and receive text messages.
Not a fit: Patients who are under 18 years of age or not enrolled in the specified Technical Training groups or wings will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly reduce binge drinking and its associated consequences among military personnel.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown success with similar Brief Alcohol Interventions in reducing alcohol-related incidents among young adults, indicating a promising approach.
