What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effects of gut-directed hypnotherapy (GDH) delivered via telehealth on managing gastrointestinal health, particularly for disorders of gut-brain interactions. It focuses on understanding how psychosocial factors influence gastrointestinal symptoms and their severity, leveraging the gut-brain axis concept. Participants will engage in group-format GDH sessions and complete pre- and post-session surveys to assess efficacy. The study aims to provide insights into the potential benefits of hypnotherapy for individuals experiencing chronic gastrointestinal symptoms.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who experience gastrointestinal symptoms consistent with disorders of gut-brain interaction.
Not a fit: Patients under 18, pregnant women, individuals with severe mental illness, or those with low hypnotic susceptibility may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve the management of gastrointestinal disorders and enhance patients' quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using telehealth for hypnotherapy is relatively novel, there is emerging evidence supporting the efficacy of hypnotherapy for gastrointestinal disorders in other settings.
