What this trial studies

This Phase 1 interventional study tests a telemedicine-delivered buprenorphine program offered by Boulder Care in partnership with NIDA, focusing on vulnerable and culturally specific populations. Participants are English-speaking adults with a history of opioid use disorder who are starting buprenorphine or are within 45 days of starting or restarting it. The protocol delivers medication and care through Boulder Care's telehealth platform at a Portland, Oregon site and monitors feasibility, reach, equity, and early clinical outcomes. Key exclusions include buprenorphine allergy, plans to leave a Boulder Care-affiliated state within 12 months, and untreated health conditions that would preclude participation.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are English-speaking adults with opioid use disorder who are starting or restarted buprenorphine within the past 45 days and can receive care through Boulder Care in Portland.

Not a fit: People allergic to buprenorphine, those planning to move out of a Boulder Care-affiliated state within a year, or those with untreated medical or mental conditions preventing participation are unlikely to benefit.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, it could expand convenient, culturally sensitive access to buprenorphine care for underserved people with opioid use disorder and improve treatment retention.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown telehealth-delivered buprenorphine can improve access and retention, but this platform- and equity-focused implementation approach is relatively novel.
