What this trial studies
This study investigates the effectiveness of a technology-driven independent exercise program aimed at improving health outcomes related to dementia risk among underactive adults aged 40-70 in rural Kansas. Participants will undergo baseline physical fitness and health assessments before being randomized into either an exercise group, which will follow a structured 16-week exercise program, or a control group that will receive the program after the study period. The exercise program will be delivered through a personal training app that tracks participation and progress, adhering to national guidelines for safety and effectiveness. The study aims to assess the impact of this intervention on physical fitness and health markers such as blood glucose and cholesterol levels.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are underactive adults aged 40-70 who can read and converse in English and are willing to use a smartphone app.
Not a fit: Patients with recent myocardial infarction, uncontrolled hypertension, or significant musculoskeletal disorders may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could help improve physical fitness and reduce dementia risk among underactive adults in rural areas.
How similar studies have performed: While similar technology-driven exercise interventions have shown promise, this specific approach targeting rural adults at risk of dementia is relatively novel.
