Cholera-Hospital-Based-Intervention-for-7-Days (CHoBI7) Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Case Area Targeted Intervention (CATI)

What this trial studies
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a targeted water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) intervention designed for individuals living near cholera patients. The intervention, known as CHoBI7, will be implemented in cholera transmission hotspots to reduce infections and promote sustained WASH behaviors. The study will involve randomized controlled trials to assess the impact of the intervention on cholera infection rates and hygiene practices among participants. The research builds on previous findings that highlighted the increased risk of cholera for those living close to infected individuals.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals living within close proximity to cholera patients who lack running water in their homes.
Not a fit: Patients who have access to running water or do not live near cholera cases may not benefit from this intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly reduce cholera infections and improve hygiene practices in vulnerable populations.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown success with similar WASH interventions, particularly the CHoBI7 intervention, which effectively reduced cholera rates in patient households.
