What this trial studies

This study aims to conduct the first randomized control trial focused on targeted treatments for concussion in adults aged 50 and older. Participants will be enrolled during their first clinical visit for concussion and will undergo assessments at both their initial and follow-up visits. The study will compare the effectiveness of a targeted intervention against usual care, measuring outcomes such as symptom severity and cognitive function. By addressing the unique needs of older adults, this research seeks to establish evidence-based treatment protocols for this at-risk population.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 50 years or older who have been diagnosed with a concussion within the last 4 days to 12 months.

Not a fit: Patients with diagnosed neurological disorders or major psychiatric disorders other than depression/anxiety may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved treatment strategies for concussion in older adults, enhancing recovery and quality of life.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research specifically targeting older adults with concussion, similar studies in younger populations have shown promising results, indicating potential for success in this novel approach.
