What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) specifically designed for shift workers in the social and health care sector. The study compares tailored CBT-I to a control intervention of sleep hygiene counselling to assess improvements in insomnia severity, mental health, and quality of life. Participants will undergo six individual sessions of CBT-I or one session of sleep hygiene counselling, with their experiences and the feasibility of the intervention also being evaluated. The study aims to identify factors that may influence the effectiveness of CBT-I among shift workers.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are shift workers aged 18-65 in the social and health care sector who experience significant insomnia symptoms.
Not a fit: Patients with untreated significant somatic or mental health issues or other sleep disorders may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide an effective treatment option for insomnia specifically tailored to the unique challenges faced by shift workers.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results with CBT-I for insomnia, but this tailored approach for shift workers is relatively novel.
