What this trial studies

This observational study aims to gather insights from patients with severe asthma regarding their experiences with biologic treatments. A total of 400 patients will be recruited from specialized severe asthma centers, where they will complete a survey assessing their perceptions of treatment effectiveness, side effects, and overall satisfaction. The survey will be conducted online, ensuring that participants can respond independently and in their native languages. The findings will provide valuable patient-centered data that may inform future treatment approaches and improve care for individuals with severe asthma.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients currently receiving a biologic treatment for severe asthma for at least 6 months but not more than 18 months.

Not a fit: Patients who have switched biologics or have other significant respiratory conditions may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of patient experiences and improve treatment strategies for severe asthma.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies focusing on clinical outcomes of biologic treatments, this patient-centered approach is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.

Eligibility criteria

Show full inclusion / exclusion criteria
Inclusion Criteria:

Receiving a biologic treatment for at least 6 months.

• But has not been on the treatment for longer than 18 months. Note: In clinical practice, a 12-month trial of biologic treatments is needed before a decision to stop/switch treatment is made. Therefore, our inclusion criteria will capture people who are non-responders to biologic treatments.

Exclusion Criteria:

* Patients will be excluded if they are unwilling/unable to provide consent to use their data.
* Patients who have switched biologics will also be excluded.
* In the opinion of the physician responsible for the care of the patient, the patient has a condition, other than asthma which is significantly contributing to their respiratory symptoms, e.g. lung cancer, heart failure or severe COPD.
