What this trial studies
This study investigates the effectiveness of performing a truncal vagotomy in conjunction with revisional sleeve gastrectomy to gastric bypass surgery. The primary focus is on reducing the severity and incidence of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in patients who have previously undergone sleeve gastrectomy. Participants must be over 18 years old and eligible for the revision surgery. The study aims to provide insights into the potential benefits of this surgical approach for managing GERD post-operatively.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 years old who are eligible for sleeve to bypass revision bariatric surgery.
Not a fit: Patients under 18 years old or those not eligible for sleeve to bypass revision bariatric surgery may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce GERD symptoms in patients undergoing revisional bariatric surgery.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific combination of truncal vagotomy with revisional bariatric surgery is novel, similar surgical interventions have shown promise in managing GERD.
