What this trial studies

This study investigates whether the use of autofluorescence imaging during surgery for thyroid cancer can reduce the risk of developing hypoparathyroidism. Patients undergoing total thyroidectomy or completion hemithyroidectomy will be enrolled to assess the effectiveness of this imaging technique. The goal is to minimize treatment-related complications and improve patient outcomes following thyroid cancer surgery. The study will focus on patients with a confirmed diagnosis of thyroid cancer who are scheduled for surgery.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 years old with a suspicion or diagnosis of thyroid cancer who are scheduled for total or completion thyroidectomy.

Not a fit: Patients requiring simultaneous parathyroid surgery or those with severe kidney impairment may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce the incidence of hypoparathyroidism in patients undergoing thyroid cancer surgery.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of autofluorescence imaging in surgery is a relatively novel approach, preliminary studies have shown promise in reducing complications in similar surgical contexts.
