What this trial studies

This observational study evaluates the adherence of children and adolescents with newly diagnosed cancer or relapse to a personalized adapted physical activity (APA) program. It involves assessing motivations and barriers through questionnaires before the program starts and again after 4 to 6 months of participation. The goal is to enhance long-term adherence to physical activity by identifying and addressing obstacles faced by young patients and their parents. The study is conducted at the Grenoble Alpes University Hospital as part of routine care in the immuno-hematological service.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are children aged 3 to under 18 years with a new cancer diagnosis or relapse who have not previously participated in an adapted physical activity program.

Not a fit: Patients with strict medical contraindications to physical activity, such as unstable heart or lung disease, may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve the long-term physical activity engagement of children with cancer, enhancing their overall health and quality of life.

How similar studies have performed: While there is a wealth of literature on physical activity in oncology, this specific approach focusing on pediatric patients and personalized interventions is relatively novel and underexplored.
