What this trial studies
This observational study aims to investigate the incidence and development of mental health problems, such as depression and anxiety, during the peripartum period among pregnant women in Guangzhou. It will collect epidemiological and clinical data, along with biological specimens, to understand the trajectory of these mental health issues and identify risk factors. The goal is to develop a comprehensive prediction model for postpartum depression and explore its adverse outcomes, ultimately improving health interventions for mothers and their children.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are pregnant women under 20 weeks of gestation who plan to deliver at the Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center.
Not a fit: Patients with pre-existing heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, or those currently taking antidepressants may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better screening and intervention strategies for peripartum mental health issues, improving outcomes for mothers and their children.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in understanding peripartum mental health issues, but this specific approach focusing on Chinese women is relatively novel.
