What this trial studies
This observational cohort study aims to investigate the relationship between pediatric weight status and childhood growth environment on the development of puberty in children aged 6 to 12 years. Conducted across 40 primary schools in three cities in China, the study will involve anthropometric measurements and evaluations of various environmental factors reported by parents. Participants will be followed up over three years to assess the progression of puberty stages through clinical evaluations. The study seeks to clarify the underlying mechanisms linking obesity and precocious puberty.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are primary school children aged 6 to 12 years who are overweight or obese.
Not a fit: Children with a history of hormone drug treatment lasting more than six months will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into preventing precocious puberty and obesity-related complications in children.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have indicated a correlation between childhood obesity and puberty development, suggesting that this approach may yield valuable insights.
