What this trial studies

This study aims to investigate the relationship between genetic variants, microbiome, and the response to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). It will recruit 200 drug-naive or drug-free participants aged 19 to 70, who will receive SSRIs tailored to their individual needs. Evaluations will be conducted at baseline, 4 months, 6 months, and 1 year after treatment using various psychological scales and functional MRI for some participants. Blood samples will be collected for genetic, proteomic, and microbiomic analyses to explore predictors of treatment response.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 19 to 70 with a diagnosis of OCD who are drug-naive or have been drug-free for more than three months.

Not a fit: Patients with neurological disorders, comorbid psychotic disorders, or substance dependence within the past six months may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to personalized treatment strategies for OCD, improving patient outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on SSRIs and OCD, the specific integration of (epi)genetics and microbiome analysis in this context is relatively novel.
