What this trial studies
This is an observational, cross-sectional project that collects questionnaire responses from adult regular smokers and from healthcare practitioners at CHU Nice to document knowledge, attitudes, and practices about tobacco cessation. Both patients and a range of practitioners (general practitioners, specialists, interns, and clinical dentistry students) will complete structured questionnaires during hospital visits. No treatment or intervention is delivered; the study describes current conversations and support available in hospital services. Findings will be used to identify gaps in counseling and to inform improvements in hospital-based cessation support.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal participants are adults (18+) who are regular smokers (at least one cigarette or equivalent per day) or CHU Nice practitioners/clinical dental students who can give consent and complete a questionnaire.
Not a fit: Ex-smokers, non-smokers, patients under guardianship, and people with significant language difficulties are excluded and therefore unlikely to benefit from the study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could lead to better hospital conversations and support for quitting, helping more smokers get practical help to stop.
How similar studies have performed: Surveys of practitioner attitudes have been done (mainly in private practice and older in France) and international questionnaire studies have yielded useful insights, but systematic patient-perspective work in France is largely novel.
