What this trial studies
Researchers will use community input to adapt the Family Check-Up Online for Spanish-speaking Latinx families, convening a panel of parents and promotores to guide content and delivery. The team will build two new community-responsive modules and iteratively refine the program using Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycles and usability feedback from additional Spanish-speaking stakeholders and parents. In a Hybrid Type 1 pilot, 108 Spanish-speaking Latinx families with youth age 11–14 will be randomized to the adapted FCU-L Online delivered by promotores or to the Spanish FCU Online without the deep cultural adaptations, with outcomes focused on parenting practices and feasibility/acceptability metrics. Implementation adaptations to support promotor delivery will also be tested alongside participant outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal participants are self-identified Spanish-speaking Latinx parents or guardians of a youth aged 11–14 who are willing to complete online sessions and have their child complete confidential assessments.
Not a fit: Families who are not Spanish-speaking Latinx, have youth outside the 11–14 age range, have low concern on the Positive Family Support screener, or lack the ability to engage with online or promotor-delivered activities are unlikely to benefit from this trial.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the program could increase access to culturally relevant parenting support and reduce substance use risk and behavioral problems among Latinx youth.
How similar studies have performed: The Family Check-Up has a strong evidence base for reducing substance use and externalizing behaviors, though deep cultural adaptations like this one have been less widely tested.
