Smoking and daily physical activity in young adults
The Association Between Daily Physical Activity Level and Nicotine Dependence in University Students: A Cross-Sectional Study
This project will test whether more daily physical activity is linked to lower nicotine dependence among university students in health programs.

What this trial studies
This observational study will recruit university students enrolled in health-related programs to examine the relationship between day-to-day physical activity and nicotine dependence severity. Participants aged 18 or older who are free of chronic disease will complete behavioral assessments, such as standardized smoking questionnaires, and provide daily activity data via self-report or wearable activity monitors. No therapeutic intervention will be administered; researchers will analyze cross-sectional associations between activity levels and measures of nicotine dependence. The goal is to clarify whether greater physical activity is associated with lower smoking severity to help guide lifestyle interventions for young adults.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are healthy university students aged 18 or older who are enrolled in health-related programs and willing to complete behavioral assessments.
Not a fit: Individuals under 18, those who are pregnant, or people with chronic cardiovascular, respiratory disease, or cancer are excluded and would not gain direct benefit from participation.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If a link is found, the results could help shape programs that use physical activity to support smoking reduction in young adults.
How similar studies have performed: Previous observational studies have reported associations between higher physical activity and lower smoking rates, but results are mixed and causality remains unclear.
