What this trial studies

This study employs a Multiphase Optimization Strategy (MOST) to evaluate the effectiveness of various intervention components aimed at preventing sunburn among undergraduate students. A total of 528 participants will be enrolled and randomized to receive different combinations of interventions, including education on skin cancer, personalized UV photos, action plans, and MC1R testing. The study will assess the impact of these interventions on sunburn occurrence and sun protection behaviors over a year, with evaluations at multiple time points. The goal is to identify the most effective strategies for reducing sunburn and promoting sun safety among young adults.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are undergraduate students aged 18 and older who have experienced sunburn or engaged in tanning behaviors in the past year.

Not a fit: Patients who do not read or speak English or have a personal history of skin cancer may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly reduce the incidence of sunburn and promote healthier sun protection behaviors among young adults.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with similar educational and intervention approaches in promoting sun safety, indicating potential for positive outcomes in this trial.
