What this trial studies

This pilot study evaluates the feasibility of a shared-care model for patients with low-risk differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) by integrating primary care practitioners (PCPs) and specialists through a digital health-based thyroid cancer assessment reminder system (TCARS). The study will randomly assign 60 adult patients to either a shared-care group or a control group receiving standard specialist follow-up. The aim is to improve patient management and expedite referrals for any concerns regarding cancer recurrence. The study will assess the effectiveness of this model in enhancing follow-up care and patient outcomes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 with low-risk differentiated thyroid cancer who have no evidence of cancer recurrence and are comfortable using a mobile application.

Not a fit: Patients without a consented primary care practitioner or those who do not have access to the internet may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could improve follow-up care and early detection of recurrence for low-risk thyroid cancer patients.

How similar studies have performed: While shared-care models have been explored in other contexts, this specific approach utilizing a digital reminder system is relatively novel.
