Serious game training for third-year nursing students in postpartum hemorrhage management
The Effectiveness of Serious Game-Based Training for Nursing Students in Postpartum Haemorrhage Management: A Randomised Controlled Trial
This project will see if adding a serious educational game to regular teaching helps third-year nursing students learn to manage postpartum hemorrhage.

What this trial studies
This is a randomized, parallel-group pre-test/post-test trial conducted with 70 third-year nursing students at Sakarya University. Participants are randomized 1:1 by block randomisation to an experimental group that receives traditional education followed by game-based training, or to a control group that receives only traditional education. Students and instructors are not blinded, but the biostatistician analyzing outcomes will be blinded; outcomes are measured using a postpartum hemorrhage management knowledge and skills assessment. The trial tests whether gamification improves knowledge and practical skills compared with standard teaching alone.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal participants are third-year nursing students enrolled in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Nursing course at Sakarya University who can communicate normally and consent in writing.
Not a fit: Students who are not third-year nursing students, exchange students, those with communication difficulties, or those who do not receive the game-based component are unlikely to benefit from this intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could improve nursing students' knowledge and skills in postpartum hemorrhage management and indirectly lead to faster or more effective care for birthing people experiencing severe bleeding.
How similar studies have performed: Previous work on gamification in health education has often shown improved engagement and knowledge, but evidence is more limited for translating game-based training into improved hands-on clinical skills like postpartum hemorrhage management.
