Sex Selection of Human Spermatozoa

NA · Weill Medical College of Cornell University · NCT05500573

What this trial studies

This study aims to develop a reliable and cost-effective method for selecting sperm based on gender. Couples undergoing infertility treatment will provide sperm samples, which will be analyzed using a multilayer density gradient technique to separate X-bearing and Y-bearing spermatozoa. The selected sperm will then be used in standard assisted reproductive procedures such as in vitro fertilization or intrauterine insemination. The effectiveness of the sperm selection will be assessed through FISH analysis to determine the ratio of X- to Y-chromosome bearing sperm.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are couples undergoing infertility treatment who wish to select the gender of their child for medical or non-medical reasons.

Not a fit: Patients with severe male factor infertility may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this method could allow couples to have greater control over the gender of their offspring during infertility treatments.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have explored sperm sorting techniques, but this specific approach using a multilayer density gradient is relatively novel.
