What this trial studies
This study aims to investigate the prevalence and severity of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) among the adult population in Belgium, particularly focusing on those who are overweight or obese. By employing a non-invasive screening approach, the study seeks to gather essential epidemiological data that is currently lacking in the region. The findings will help in understanding how patients with NAFLD can be effectively referred for further care.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who are overweight or obese and can understand Dutch.
Not a fit: Patients with secondary causes of steatosis or those who engage in excessive alcohol consumption may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved identification and management of NAFLD in at-risk populations.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on similar studies in Belgium, other countries have successfully conducted epidemiological studies on NAFLD, indicating potential for success in this approach.
