What this trial studies

This observational study aims to assess the prevalence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection among students who have been in close contact with active tuberculosis patients. It will evaluate risk factors associated with tuberculosis infection and conduct a health economic analysis of the screening strategy using the QuantiFERON-TB Gold test. The study focuses on students aged 13 and older from junior middle school to university who have been in close contact with active cases. The findings could help improve screening strategies in educational settings.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are students aged 13 and older who have had close contact with active tuberculosis patients.

Not a fit: Patients currently diagnosed with active tuberculosis or those who have completed treatment for active or latent tuberculosis will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved screening and early detection of latent tuberculosis infection among school contacts, potentially reducing the spread of the disease.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in screening strategies for tuberculosis in similar populations, indicating that this approach is supported by prior research.
