What this trial studies

This study aims to screen adult patients with psychotic disorders for hereditary metabolic diseases related to sulfur amino acid metabolism using a sulfitest. Given the complexity of identifying such disorders among psychotic patients, this research seeks to determine the prevalence of these conditions in this population. The study is motivated by recent findings of a new hereditary metabolic disease linked to psychotic disorders, which could lead to significant changes in patient management if identified. By focusing on patients without known organic causes for their psychosis, the study hopes to uncover previously undiagnosed metabolic disorders.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older diagnosed with a psychotic disorder and without a known organic etiology.

Not a fit: Patients with known organic causes for their psychotic disorder or those who are minors, pregnant, or under legal protection may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to earlier diagnosis and treatment of treatable metabolic disorders in patients with psychotic disorders.

How similar studies have performed: While the approach of screening for metabolic disorders in psychotic patients is relatively novel, previous studies have indicated potential success in identifying treatable conditions in similar populations.
