What this trial studies

This study investigates the financial challenges faced by individuals with Alzheimer's Disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD) and their caregivers. It employs qualitative interviews, content validation surveys, and quantitative data collection to assess various financial stressors, caregiving costs, and coping strategies. The first phase includes semi-structured interviews conducted remotely or in person, focusing on changes in financial circumstances before and after diagnosis, and the impact of financial hardship on well-being and care decisions. The goal is to develop suitable screening measures to better address the needs of patients and caregivers experiencing financial strain.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 or older with a clinical diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease or related dementia, as well as their caregivers.

Not a fit: Patients who are unable to provide informed consent due to cognitive impairment will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved screening tools that help identify and address financial hardships faced by patients and caregivers of those with Alzheimer's and related dementias.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach to screening for financial hardship in AD/ADRD is novel, other studies have highlighted the importance of addressing social determinants of health in chronic conditions.
