What this trial studies
This single-center prospective cohort will invite all women presenting for an initial visit to the Assuta Ashdod endometriosis clinic to complete validated fibromyalgia questionnaires, including the Modified ACR Preliminary Diagnostic Criteria, before their appointment. Researchers will determine the prevalence of fibromyalgia among patients with suspected endometriosis, stage endometriosis using the AAGL classification, and correlate fibromyalgia diagnoses with ultrasound and surgical findings. The study excludes women with a prior fibromyalgia diagnosis and will compare symptom changes in patients diagnosed with both conditions versus those with only one. No therapeutic interventions are provided as part of this observational protocol.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Women presenting to the Assuta Ashdod Endometriosis Clinic for their first visit with suspected endometriosis who can give informed consent and do not already have a fibromyalgia diagnosis.
Not a fit: Women who have a prior diagnosis of fibromyalgia or who are not attending this clinic for suspected endometriosis would not benefit from this screening.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, routine screening could identify coexisting fibromyalgia earlier so clinicians can tailor pain management and improve symptom control.
How similar studies have performed: Previous research has reported overlap between fibromyalgia and endometriosis using questionnaires, but prospective screening tied to ultrasound and surgical staging at the first clinic visit is relatively limited.
